2003 North America VPD Conference
MSC.Marc - Short Course
This short course was included in the conference
registration.
Heat Transfer Wednesday, October 15, 10:30 - 12:30
Heat transfer and thermal stress analysis
is critical in many applications including automotive, aerospace,
electronics and manufacturing.
High temperature applications require particular care to satisfy
both the thermal and structural design constraints to insure reliability
of the components. This short course demonstrated MSC.Marc
technology for thermal analysis. It included discussions on:
1. Fundamentals of Heat Transfer
2. Thermal Stress and Temperature Dependent Properties
3. Coupled Thermal-Stress Analysis
4. Coupled Thermal-Joule Heating-Structural Analysis
5. Radiation Analysis
6. Future directions in Heat transfer at MSC.
Dynamics Wednesday, October 15, 1:30 - 4:00 pm
Transient dynamic simulation is an important aspect of product
design and safety assessment. This short course was intended for
those who are already familiar with classical linear dynamic analysis,
and are now facing the challenge of nonlinear dynamics. The role
of implicit and explicit dynamic operators will be explored based
upon the numerical algorithms in MSC.Marc and MSC.Dytran. Particular
emphasis was placed on time step selection, damping, consequences
of contact and convergence. This class contained lectures and
demonstrations including impact and drop-test analysis.
