Exploring Advanced Noise and Vibration Simulation Technologies Across the Frequency Domain

N&V SymposiumMSC Software is ushering in a new era in Noise & Vibration computing, bringing advanced technologies to the forefront of CAE N&V solutions. We'd like to invite you to a special presentation session & discussion of important new implementations developed in our flagship product MD Nastran:

  • Energy Finite Element Analysis (EFEA)
  • FRF Modeling & Assembly
  • Coupled Exterior Acoustics
  • Multi-Discipline N&V
  • N&V Optimization

Energy Finite Element Analysis has been a research topic in the last decade examining the void between detailed FEA frequency response, and high frequency statistical energy analysis (SEA) solutions. MSC has partnered with Dr Nick Vlahopoulos of the University of Michigan and CTO of Michigan Engineering Services, LLC to implement EFEA in MD Nastran to fill this void. EFEA has proven advantages:

  • Common FEA-type modeling: FE-based usability, features & data structures
  • Merging SEA expertise with the FEA community
  • Mid-to-high frequency bandwidth
  • FEA level of accuracy accommodating local damping and spatially dependent results

Frequency Response Functions are cornerstones of test & subsystem vibration analysis. MSC has leveraged its superelement FE technology to FRF-based systems to achieve more scaleable modular full system response. FRF components and FRF-based assembly (FBA) provide order-of-magnitude reduced system computation time for full vehicle runs, mount & suspension design iterations, and transfer path analysis (TPA). Direct integration of test-based FRF's into system models enables end to end validation of both simulation and test.

Coupled Exterior Acoustics combines the acoustic infinite element and Nastran sparse solver technologies to give MD Nastran the fastest complete interior-exterior, structure-acoustic solutions in the industry. Full engine, full vehicle, complete exhaust system, and structure-borne radiated noise analyses are now feasible with MD Nastran. High fidelity structure-acoustic interface coupling & accurate FE acoustic solutions can be achieved.

Multi-Discipline N&V combines solver disciplines with traditional FE linear dynamics: multi-body nonlinear kinematics (MD Adams), nonlinear contact & complex eigensolution (brake squeal), and explicit nonlinear parallel (time domain N&V). MSC will show you unique possibilities of the MD Nastran solver.

N&V Optimization is enabled by the MD Nastran compute power & its capabilities. Use of fluid-structure superelements and FRF models allows full vehicle N&V optimization of mounts & frames. Combined topology, shape and sizing optimization allows practical solutions to unique N&V design problems. Advanced solvers, new N&V technologies and proven, scalable methods make MD Nastran the most powerful optimization solution in CAE.

MSC looks forward to seeing you at our special N&V symposium on Oct 10.
