MSC demonstrates Autonomous Driving solution at Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany
(NEWPORT BEACH, CA, May 2018) - MSC Software Corporation announced today that MSC Software is set to speak at the Autonomous Vehicle Software Symposium 2018, an integral part of the Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo in Stuttgart, Germany on June 5-7 2018. The topic of the presentation will be - "Safety-reinforced AI driver development."
MSC has a booth at the Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo 2018 where the company, together with Concurrent Real Time and VIRES Simulationstechnologie GmbH an MSC Software company, demonstrates the Autonomous Driving solution of MSC at booth number C2 10004. The solution simulates accurate real time vehicle models and physics-based sensor models in a photorealistic environment allowing to train and validate control logic over a wide variety of scenarios. Part of the offering is the multibody dynamics solution Adams and the Virtual Test Drive (VTD) Solution from VIRES. Concurrent Real Time, the solution partner of MSC Software, provides the real-time platform that will host the driving simulator and provides Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-loop (SIL) functionality.
The presentation will take place on Tuesday, June 5th at 17:00hrs by Dr. Edward Schwalb, Lead Scientist. Safety must be a major focus for automated vehicle (AV) development. Today humans drive 100 million miles between fatal crashes. Consequently, proving that a specific revision of an AI driver is safe is not practical using road and track tests; neither investigations of Tesla's crash nor Waymo driving records resulted in conclusive results. State-of-the-art machine learning approaches, e.g., measuring F1 score, are inadequate to measure failure rates of a few in a billion; a 99.999% F1 score is not considered meaningful. MSC explains how to develop an engineering process for developing highly reliable, and safe systems using unreliable AI components.
