Costa Mesa, CA, May 10, 2001, MSC.Software Corporation (NYSE: MNS), an information technology software and services provider, today announced that The Boeing Company's Wichita facility has won a "Profits by Design" award. The award is in recognition of Boeing's efforts to reduce manufacturing costs and time, attributable to the innovative use of MSC.Software's MSC.Marc product.
Boeing Wichita Manufacturing Research and Development is currently using MSC.Marc to simulate fuselage skin and frame forming processes and procedures in manufacture of the Boeing 737NG airplane. Per Boeing Wichita MR&D engineers, "This tool provides true concurrent build/analysis capability that augments the design effort during the product design stage of the program to ensure quality parts and product." Boeing has reduced manufacturing costs associated with part manufacture, product flow time, quality and ergonomic related issues by utilizing finite element technology. On one part alone, engineers were able to eliminate unnecessary manufacturing steps resulting in a 40% reduction in part manufacture flow time while additionally providing a higher quality part. Boeing Wichita looks to extend manufacturing simulation to additional components and airplanes.
"We are pleased to present this award to the Boeing Wichita team,"said Frank Perna, Chairman and CEO of MSC.Software. "They have proven that simulation can be applied to the manufacturing process to achieve a tremendous return on investment."
The "Profits by Design"award is presented to companies that implement innovative product development processes that increase their sales and/or reduce their costs. The award is presented several times per year. Cooper Tire, of Findlay, Ohio, won the first "Profits by Design" award last year.About MSC.Software Corporation
