VIRGINIA TECH DEPLOYS 600 MSC.ADAMS SEATS IN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

Leading Engineering University Becomes the Largest ADAMS® Site Worldwide

SANTA ANA, Calif. - June 13, 2002 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced that Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, one of the nation's top 25 engineering institutions, have announced the deployment of 600 seats of ADAMS® functional virtual prototyping software.  This is the largest installation of ADAMS anywhere in the world, and was granted through Mechanical Dynamics' association with Partners for the Advancement of CAD/CAM/CAE Education (PACE) initiative headed by General Motors, EDS, and Sun Microsystems.

Virginia Tech, located in Blacksburg, Va., is the home of the Commonwealth of Virginia's leading College of Engineering.  Consistently rated as a premier institution in national rankings, the college is well known for the excellence of its programs in engineering education, research, and public service.  The college ranks eighth in number of bachelor's degrees awarded, 13th in master's degrees, and 19th in Ph.D.'s.  Virginia Tech's College of Engineering is the 14th largest producer of women engineers with a bachelor of science degree, and ranks 19th for African Americans among its peer schools.

"MSC.Software is very focused on working with educational institutions around the world and our work with Virginia Tech is a clear example of the increased demand by industry that their future employees be knowledgeable about simulation and virtual prototyping," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software.  "We are continuing to see strength in the educational market and are confident that academics, researchers, and students around the world will increasingly look to both legacy MSC.Software products and the new MSC.Adams and MSC.Dynamic Designer products to help solve engineering problems."

Many of the ADAMS seats licensed by Virginia Tech will be used by students on their personal computers, with licenses checked out from a central server, thus avoiding late-night trips to the campus computing center to complete coursework assignments.

"Deploying Unigraphics and ADAMS on our students' personal computers represents a tremendous computational infrastructure upgrade that gives our students incredible access to a state-of-the-art computer-aided engineering software environment unsurpassed by any installation available in industry," said Dr. Jan Helge Bøhn, director of the Virginia Tech CAD Lab and associate professor of mechanical engineering.

"We now have a revolutionary, powerful ability to teach a variety of engineering topics using a single, consistent state-of-the-art environment, starting with virtual experiments in the freshman laboratories built around ADAMS, through case studies in sophomore dynamics, and advanced virtual prototyping of complex dynamic systems in senior capstone design."
