MSC.Software Extends CATIA Support With New V5i Product Offerings

New CAA-Based Generative and Gateway Products Underpin Successful Dassault Systemes Partnership

SANTA ANA, Calif. - August 27, 2002 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced the expansion of the MSC.visualNastran V5i family to five products.  The new products are based upon the Dassault Systemes V5 Component Application Architecture (CAA) and have been developed in close partnership with Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris #13065, DSY.PA).  They give CATIA users integrated, scaleable access to the leading MSC.Software simulation tools and increase the opportunities to reduce design and testing costs throughout the product lifecycle.

"We are leveraging MSC.Software's core strength in simulation technology and integrating it into CATIA to give design engineers an extremely powerful set of tools," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software.  "Our partnership with Dassault Systemes is a key piece of our overall business strategy.  Utilizing simulation earlier in the design process dramatically increases its impact and I know that CATIA users around the world will see immediate positive effects."

"I am delighted to see that our partnership has helped MSC.Software rapidly develop a number of V5-compliant applications based on CAA V5," said Gérard Lécina, director of CATIA CAE solutions at Dassault Systemes. "With these new products from MSC.Software, our CATIA V5 customers now have access to additional powerful analysis and simulation capabilities, in the familiar CATIA V5 environment."

The MSC.visualNastran V5i product family currently includes; MSC.visualNastran Generative products, which embed simulation directly into the CATIA V5 CAD environment and MSC.visualNastran v5i Gateway products, which provide smooth, direct access to corporate simulation resources.

These products are focused on enabling design engineers with sophisticated, easy-to-use simulation tools to answer product performance questions as a design is developed saving time and money on expensive design changes later in the process.  In essence, the MSC.visualNastran V5i product family enables CATIA design engineers to have better confidence in the performance of their designs before expensive prototypes are made and tested.

The five current members of the MSC.visualNastran V5i product family include:

  • MSC.Nastran Generative (GPN), which provides CATIA users with the ability to directly access basic MSC.Nastran simulation capabilities without leaving their familiar V5 GPS environment. It provides an integrated, generative and seamless integration between CATIA V5 GPS and MSC.Nastran
  • MSC.Nastran Gateway, which provides CATIA users with the ability to access basic MSC.Nastran simulation capabilities in a fully generative way from within the Dassault Systemes CATIA V5 GPS environment. It allows the export of a "run ready" MSC.Nastran input file as well as the import and visualization of results from the MSC.Nastran execution.
  • MSC.Generative Thermal (GTH) enables design teams to simulate complex thermal operating environments within CATIA V5.  This fully integrated and fully generative solution enables the affects of heat transfer due to conduction and convection to be simulated and provides users with temperature distributions for subsequent use in structural analysis.
  • MSC.Dynamic Designer for CAA V5 allows dynamic motion simulation to be performed on CATIA V5 assemblies. Dynamic Designer Motion, the foundation for all other CATIA V5 Dynamic Designer products, will be able to create motion models from CATIA assemblies, simulate the dynamic motion of the assemblies, and allow you to view animations and XY plots of resulting motion.
  • Demonstrating MSC.Software's commitment to open systems, the STEP AP209 Gateway provides CATIA users with the ability to transfer finite element information from Dassault Systemes CATIA V5 Analysis and Simulation environment to a STEP format.

These highly functional products are seamlessly integrated into the V5 environment. They provide companies and their design teams with the scalable resources needed to improve reliability and repeatability in their design process.
