What's New in SimDesigner R1.1 CATIA V5R17 Edition


SimDesigner CATIA Edition is the most extensive enterprise multidiscipline simulation solution embedded in CATIA.  With R1.1 CATIA V5R17 Edition, SimDesigner provides many new capabilities and significant enhancements to further extend performance, flexibility, ease-of-use, and enterprise collaboration.

1. General Enhancements
Due to the increased complexity of today's design engineering projects, more customers require the optimal scalability and performance offered by 64-bit platforms. With the support of 64-bit, SimDesigner provides improved performance and more rapid simulation response times.

Enhancements include:

  • Support of 64-bit Windows platform
  • Support of CATIA V5R17
  • Faster results postprocessing with new caching option
  • Performance improvements across the entire product toolset for faster results
  • Dynamic licensing allows release of SimDesigner license without exiting CATIA

2. Enterprise Manager
SimDesigner provides enhanced integration with the SimEnterprise simulation platform and SimManager.

SimDesigner Enterprise Manager is extended to include:

  • Support for CATIA Assemblies (CATProduct)
  • Support for all workbenches with extension to all solvers:
    • MD Nastran, Marc, LS-DYNA, Adams
  • Server connection validation to ensure connectivity
  • Ability to browse SimManager data from the SimDesigner toolbar

3. Motion Workbench
The SimDesigner Motion workbench capabilities have been extended to include:

  • Import externally generated modal analysis results for use in flexible body simulations
  • Upgrade to latest Adams solver, Adams 2005r2
    • More robust support for contacts
    • Support for SI2 integrator
  • Ease of use enhancements
    • Add support for CATIA units settings
    • New options for defining spring pre-length
    • Ability to modify joint types for joints that are mapped from CATIA assembly constraints or kinematic joints

4. Linear Structures Workbench
The SimDesigner Linear workbench capabilities have been extended to include:

  • Upgrade solver support to MD Nastran 2006r1
  • Improved frequency response analysis
  • Import of Nastran mesh and results from external XDB files
  • Mapping property support

5. Nonlinear Structures Workbench
The SimDesigner Nonlinear Structures workbench capabilities have been extended to include:

  • Upgrade solver support to Marc 2005 r3
  • Support for stick-slip friction
  • Support of multi-point constraint: RBE3
  • Additional default parameters to improve ease of use
