For the past few years, MSC Nastran has supported 1-D rotor dynamics using beam/bar elements, which is widely used by turbines, jet engine, and airplane manufacturers. The rotor dynamics capability allows the user to perform static analysis, obtain real and complex eigenvalues, and determine frequency response and transient response. The 1-D implementation had the limitation that it cannot be used to model complex rotor geometry and the blades in this analysis are treated as rigid. The rotordynamics capabilities within Nastran are improved significantly from Nastran 2013 release. This webinar will summarize these features from Nastran 2013- Nastran 2018.

HDF5 was introduced in MSC Nastran 2016 (enhanced in 2017 and 2018). HDF5 is an open data model for storing and managing heterogeneous data. The database organizes MSC Nastran input and output data in a hierarchical structure. Its open format and access via multiple programming languages make it ideal for FEA applications. HDF5 has important advantages: faster access and plot generation, and is easily accessed for downstream calculations. A single file can store all results, replacing use of multiple files (XDB, OP2, Master/Dball, and punch files).
