SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Segment to Segment Contact in Marc

In order to improve contact accuracy, Segment-To-Segment contact algorithm was introduced in Marc2010 and its capabilities enhanced in the subsequent Marc releases. The contact model set up is much easier with this method as there is no consideration required to select the touched and touching bodies. The method also gives rise to better contact stress distribution and better overall results. This webinar discuss about the benefits, set up, description, and limitations of Segment to Segment contact in Marc.

SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Beyond Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors

Dynamic analysis is an integral part of CAE. It is very crucial to know the dynamic behavior of a system. For many years, MSC Nastran has been a de-facto standard in the industry to perform dynamic analysis. The first step towards dynamic analysis is to find out system’s natural frequencies. Though Normal modes analysis in MSC Nastran is a basic solution, it reveals a lot of useful information. It is challenging to mathematically model and predict correct dynamic response of a system. Engineers need to validate the accuracy of results for complex systems. With ever increasing model sizes it is important to perform the simulation in an efficient manner. This presentation provides an overview of tools available in MSC Nastran to deal with these aspects of dynamic simulation.

SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Sinda Visio Office Toolkit and Thermal Studio

The Sinda family of thermal design products has been relied on by aerospace and high technology companies worldwide for 50 years. MSC Sinda Visio Office Toolkit and Thermal Studio are two modules of Sinda which are included in MSC Sinda basic package. Sinda Visio Office Toolkit allows you to set up a network model of a ‘Thermal System’ by creating diffusion nodes that represent ‘lumped masses’ of various sections of a large model, connecting them to each other with conductive, convective or radiative resistors, heat sources in a flow chart like manner. When you run the network model, it generates a Sinda file automatically. Thus a 20 or 30 node models can be run with many what if scenarios to get a ‘feel of the thermal system behavior’ during initial design phase.

SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Topology Optimization using MSC Nastran and Patran

Topology optimization has been available in MSC Nastran SOL200 for many versions. In contrast to sizing and shape optimization, topology optimization seeks to find an optimal distribution of material given certain parameters, such as packaging space, loads, and boundary conditions. The presentation will highlight the capabilities available in MSC Nastran along with a sample demonstration of the capability using Patran. Topics for this session include: Introduction to Optimization Basic Concept and Capability of Topology Optimization in Nastran Problem setup and results demonstration in Patran

SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Design Optimization

Design optimization refers to the search for a structural design that, in some sense, “optimal”, or “the best,” while varying structural parameters. While performing this search, the design is guided to satisfy operating limits that are imposed on the response of the structure and by further limits on the values the structural parameters can take. This, in a nutshell, represents the design optimization task in MSC Nastran, and leads directly to concepts such as “objective function”, “design variables,” “design constraints,” which are covered in this particular webinar.
