In many cases, it is necessary to analyze a nonlinear process in several stages. Each stage may involve different contact bodies and boundary conditions, but history data such as temperatures, displacements, stresses and strains have to be carried over for contact bodies to be passed from one stage to another. The pre state option is one of two methods available to transfer data from one analysis to another for multi-stage simulations. It is designed to read data from a Marc results file and to use the data as initial conditions in the new analysis. In a contact analysis, it allows the selection of contact bodies to easily apply the data to parts of the current model.

Frequency response analysis is a method that allows users to analyze a structure’s response to a steady- state oscillatory excitation. In this type of analysis the excitation is explicitly defined in the frequency domain. The structure is subjected to an oscillatory sinusoidal loading with an amplitude at a specific frequency. Similarly the response occurs at the same frequency as the loading. Examples of oscillatory excitation include rotating machinery, unbalanced tires and helicopter blades.
