RESEARCH GOALS: Mr. Kumaar is working to design and test cenosphere aluminum composite disc brakes for aircraft.

METHODS:

• Analyze the wear.
• Analyze thermal deformation.

MSC RESEARCH ASSIST AWARD: Mr. Kumaar and Hindustan University are using MSC Nastran | Patran to conduct FEM analysis of the composite disc brake.

BIO: Mr. Kumaar holds a Bachelor Degree in Engineering from the Aeronautical Engineering in Nehru Institute of Engineering & Technology and is currently pursuing a Master of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering from Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science.

His interests include composites, aerodynamics, structures, design and propulsion.

RESEARCH UPDATE:

April 2013

• Mr. Kumaar is experimenting with various composites for various testings and has found some enhanced properties when compared with the monolithic material.
• A 3D model of the disc brake rotor has been modeled.
