What's New

Support Results Files > Two Gigabytes

ADAMS/PostProcessor supports input and output of results files larger than two gigabytes in size. Support is limited to the XML results file format.

OpenGL Plotting

It is now possible to have plots displayed using the native OpenGL driver rather than HOOPS. On most platforms, this will deliver faster page-turning performance.

To enable OpenGL plotting:

  • Set the environment variable MDI_NATIVE_PLOT_GRAPHICS to 1.

Context-Sensitive Cursors

When ADAMS/View or ADAMS/PostProcessor is placed into a dynamic view control mode, the cursor shape is changed to reflect the state. Cursors have been implemented for the dynamic modes:

  • XY rotation
  • Z rotation
  • XY translation
  • Perspective depth
  • Center
  • Zoom
  • Window zoom

Dynamic modes are terminated by completion of the operation (in ADAMS/View), selecting the Select (arrow) button, or the escape key.

Ability to import multiple analysis files in one step

It is now possible to import multiple analysis files in one step.  Multiple analysis files (res, req, gra, and analysis) are permitted only when the Model Name option is selected.  Only one file is allowed with the Analysis Name option.

Ability to restore interface layout of ADAMS/PostProcessor

A new entry, Reset GUI Dimensions, has been added to the View menu that allows you to restore the default GUI appearance of the Plotting dashboard and the property editor.

Documentation Enhancements

ADAMS/PostProcessor Improvements

  • ADAMS/PostProcessor documentation includes updates to the Preferences dialog box. Some unnecessary flexible body settings were removed.

  • We have improved the documentation for filtering curve data and added an example (under the tab Curve Data, select Filtering Curve Data).

Overall Documentation Improvements

For MSC.ADAMS 2005, we've made improvements to the MSC.ADAMS help:

  • Added global search so you can search across the entire set of MSC.ADAMS help. To access the global search, do one of the following:

    • At the top of the help, select Switch Products, and then select the Search tab.

    • In any product, select the Search tab, and then in the window that appears, select Global Search.

Note that the global search does not include any .pdfs (including getting started guides and ADAMS/Driver).

  • Removed any hardcoding of font sizes so you can scale the text of the help to any size. Please note that many of the equations do not scale because they are images, and the help looks the best when viewed with medium (or 100%). In addition, your browser will print the text the same size as it is displayed.

  • Documented many of the environment variables for the products to help customize your session. The environment variables are for ADAMS/Controls, ADAMS/Durability, ADAMS/Flex, ADAMS/Solver, ADAMS/View, and the template-based products (ADAMS/Aircraft, ADAMS/Car, ADAMS/Driveline, ADAMS/Rail). For more information, see the Running and Configuring help.

Issues Resolved

ADAMS/PostProcessor Service Pack

The 2005 release of ADAMS/PostProcessor includes all of the fixes and enhancements that were provided in the 2003 Service Pack (ADAMS/View 12.0 Service Pack, APN-130-240). You can view a full list on the service pack distribution system at http://support.mscsoftware.com/kb/results_pds.cfm?article_id=10690.

During the course of 2005 release development, many additional maintenance and support issues have been resolved.

jpg output also captures print dialog box

Printing of bit map image files (.jpg, .xpm, and so on) would include an empty space where the Print dialog box was displayed over the graphics.  The graphics are now refreshed before the image is captured.
