Support for the MSC.ADAMS Community

for ADAMS 10.1

Dear ADAMS Customer,

Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (MDI) continues to lead the field of mechanical system simulation with frequent new releases of the ADAMS software product line on a wide range of computer hardware/operating system platforms. Our platform strategy is to support ADAMS on a range of hardware/operating system platforms that collectively meet the needs of the majority of our customers, and to maintain support for the latest operating systems for those platforms.

In order for MDI to accomplish this platform support goal, the Sun SPARC platform has been discontinued as of the ADAMS 10.1 release (now shipping). In addition, new versions of the Sun Solaris and Windows NT operating systems is being tested against ADAMS 10.1, and HP-UX 11.0 is being investigated for the next release of ADAMS.

This update provides information on the status of that testing for you to use to decide when and if to upgrade a machine running ADAMS.

Migration from Sun SPARC Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6 to Sun UltraSPARC Solaris 2.6, 7
Effective with the release of ADAMS 10.1, MDI no longer supports new versions of the ADAMS product line on Sun SPARC-based systems. We encourage you to upgrade to Sun UltraSPARC-based systems running Solaris 2.6 or 7 as soon as possible.

ADAMS 10.0 on Solaris 7
Solaris 7 on Sun UltraSPARC testing is complete and now certified for the ADAMS product line.

ADAMS 10.1 on Solaris 8
Solaris 8 on Sun UltraSPARC is now supported with ADAMS 10.1. Previous versions of ADAMS are not supported on Solaris 8.

ADAMS 10.1 on Windows 2000
We are still testing ADAMS 10.1 on Windows 2000 and, therefore, the ADAMS product line is not supported on this platform.

ADAMS 11.0 on HP-UX 11.0
ADAMS 10.1 does not support HP-UX 11.0. However, it will be supported with the ADAMS 11.0 release scheduled for the end of 2000. If further testing allows us to provide HP-UX 11.0 support for the current version before this next release, we will inform you as soon as that information is available.
