Note 1: UG NX 2.0 supports only 64 bit machine for HP and SUNS platforms.
UG 18 translator for 32 bit HP and SUNS platforms will also be available in the MSC.Patran 2004r2 release.
Note 2: MSC.Patran has three methods for importing CATIA models;
1) CATIA Access which runs from within interactive CATIA V4: creates a text .cat file on the supported CATIA V4
machines listed above. This file can be ported to all supported MSC.Patran machines for import.
2) CATDirect which runs from within interactive MSC.Patran: requires a CATIA V4 license to run on
the machine where MSC.Patran is installed, therefore, the list of platforms supporting this import method
is the CATIA V4 supported machines. Windows 2000, and LINUX are not supported platforms.
3) CATDirect (Import to Parasolid) which runs from within interactive MSC.Patran: does not require a CATIA V4 license to run.
Windows 2000, and LINUX are supported platforms.
Note 3: Does not require a CATIA V5 license to run.
Note 4: MSC.Patran has two methods for importing Pro/ENGINEER models;
1) Import to Native Patran Geometry which runs from within interactive MSC.Patran: requires a Pro/ENGINEER license to run on
the machine where MSC.Patran is installed, therefore, the list of platforms supporting this import method
is the Pro/ENGINEER supported machines.
2) Import to Parasolid which runs from within interactive MSC.Patran: requires a Pro/ENGINEER license to run on the machine
where MSC.Patran is installed, therefore, the list of platforms supporting this import method is the Pro/ENGINEER supported machines.
In order for the Import to Parasolid method to be compatible with Pro/ENGINEER installations where "ModelCHECK" is enabled,
you must go to the URL: http://www.mscsoftware.com/support/software_updates/#patran
and select MSC.Patran 2003 & 2003 (r2) Pro/ENGINEER Access (Import to Parasolid) to download the necessary file(s).
This includes the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Release.
The Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire release introduced the following platform changes:
- IBM AIX platform unsupported. Existing MSC.Patran translator is still available for pre-Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire release.
- Red Hat Linux 7.3 supported. MSC.Patran translator is not yet supported.
- SGI5 supports 64-bit only. MSC.Patran translator compatible with pre-Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire and Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire release. If running Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, the SGI5 platform must be a 64-bit capable machine to run the MSC.Patran translator.
The following steps are necessary for customers to use the MSC.Patran Pro/ENGINEER translators with Pro/ENGINEER after January 10, 2004:

For Pro/ENGINEER 2001:
1. download NMSD.exe and follow PTC instructions.
For Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire:
1. download NMSD.exe and follow PTC instructions.
2. download wildfire datecode 2003490 and follow PTC instructions.
Current known limitations remaining after these steps are completed are:
1. On UNIX platforms, the "Import to Parasolid" translator does not properly register with Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire.
A fix is in work.
The Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 release introduced the following platform changes:
- HP-UX and SUNS supports 64-bit only. MSC.Patran translator compatible with pre-Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 and Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 release. If running Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0, the HP-UX and/or SUNS platform must be a 64-bit capable machine to run the MSC.Patran translator.
Note 5: I-DEAS 10 NX Series must be installed on the machine or network where MSC.Patran is installed.
I-DEAS 10 NX Series must be running in Master Modeler Mode in order to give the translator permission to open the .mf1 file.
The environment variable "IDEASROOT" must be set to the root installation location of I-DEAS 10 NX Series.
When starting I-DEAS 10 NX Series, the option "-n OpenBatchDesign" must be used.
This translator is not compatible with I-DEAS 11 NX Series. It will open I-DEAS 9 .mf1 files.
Note 6: MSC.Patran uses the Parasolid transmit file exported from SolidWorks as the preferred method to interface with SolidWorks.
