MSC.Fatigue V2001 for_Patran Patch
Preliminaries
Unix Operating System
- Ensure that a previous installation of MSC.Patran 2001r2a exists.
- Determine the root directory where MSC.Patran 2001 was installed.
(e.g., /msc/patran2001r2)
Note that the directory will contain the sub-directories bin/, mscfatigue_files/,
etc.
- To install this patch for MSC.Fatigue for_Patran installations, the version
of MSC.Patran should be V2001r2a. This patch may not be compatible with higher
versions of MSC.Patran.
- Note that administrator priviledges may be required to perform the update.
Windows NT Operating System
- Ensure that a previous installation of MSC.Patran 2001r2a or MSC.Fatigue
2001 Stand Alone exists.
- Determine the root directory where MSC.Patran 2001 or MSC.Fatigue 2001
was installed.
(e.g., /msc/patran2001r2)
Note that the directory will contain the sub-directories bin/, mscfatigue_files/,
etc.
- To install this patch for MSC.Fatigue_for_Patran installations, the version
of MSC.Patran should be V2001r2a. This patch may not be compatible with higher
versions of MSC.Patran.
- Note that administrator priviledges may be required to perform the update.
Installation
Windows NT Operating System:
- Download the proper MSC.Fatigue 2001 patch.exe file from this page.
- Copy the MSC.Fatigue 2001 patch.exe file to a temporary directory (e.g.,
c:\tmp)
- Navigate to the the temporary directory, and double-click on the file name
(or type patch_name.exe at the command prompt).
- A dialog box will appear which queries for the location of the MSC.Patran
2001 (or MSC.Fatigue 2001 Stand Alone) installation directory.
- Note that if the default directory was accepted during the MSC.Patran 2001
installation (c:\msc), the directory where MSC.Patran 2001 is currently installed
is (c:\msc\patran2001r2)
Accept the default directory or browse for the correct directory. Note that
if you are installing the patch for MSC.Fatigue Stand Alone, the correct directory
will be c:\msc\fatigue2001 or something similar.
- Click the "finish" button after selecting the installation directory
for the patch.
- Click on the "yes to all" button to allow the patch to overwrite
the existing files.
If no dialog box pops up to ask for permission to overwrite the existing files,
you have installed the patch to the wrong directory. Note that the correct
directory will contain the sub-directories bin/, mscfatigue_files/, etc.
- The installation process should now finish normally.
UNIX Operating System:
- Create a directory to store the contents of the update tar file.
(i.e., # mkdir /tmp/update)
- Copy the update.tar file to the update directory.
- Move to the update directory untar the update.tar file.
(# cd update ; tar -xvf update.tar)
- Run mscsetup.
(./mscsetup)
- As the installation script runs, enter the following:
Note that the installation process may be halted at any time by entering "X"
at any of the prompts. Accept default values by pressing the enter-key.
"y" or enter-key to accept default (to continue with the setup
procedure)
"1" or enter-key (to install from the CD-ROM)
enter-key (to use /CDROM location for CD-ROM mount point)
"y" or enter-key (to confirm CD-ROM mount point)
pathname where:
pathname=the location where MSC.Patran 2001 has been installed. Note that
the directory will contain the sub-directories bin/, mscfatigue_files/,
etc.
Note that if an installation of MSC.Patran 2001 is not found, the install
script will issue a warning. If this occurs, you should quit the installation
and determine the correct location of the MSC.Patran installation.
"y" or enter-key (to confirm use of "pathname")
"1" or enter-key (to install perform the standard installation;
i.e., MSC.Fatigue update)
"n" (no contract ammendment is needed)
"y" (to begin the installation)

The installation process should now finish normally.

The MSC.Fatigue 2001 for_Patran installation could work incorrectly if
the following files do not have the correct permissions:
Please check that the following files have read permission:
$p3_home/p3midilog.pcl
$p3_home/p3epilog.pcl
$p3_home/app_fatigue.plb
Please check that the following file has execute permission:
$p3_home/mscfatigue_files/FatigueSubmit
Use chmod +r or +x to change the permissions as required.
Notes
Windows NT Operating System
- Note that the installation process may be halted at any time by clicking
on the "cancel" button.
- The installation script will allow a user to enter an erroneous path for
the MSC.Patran 2001 or MSC.Fatigue 2001 installation directory, and if the
path does not exist a new path may be created if so directed by the user.
If this occurs, the MSC.Fatigue installation will not be correctly patched,
and no error message will be issued.
UNIX Operating System
- Note that the installation process may be halted at any time by entering
"X" at any of the prompts.
- The installation script will allow a user to enter an erroneous path for
the MSC.Patran 2001 installation directory, and if the path does not exist
a new path may be created if so directed by the user.
However, since an installation of MSC.Patran is not found in this directory,
a warning will be issued and the user will be advised to halt the installation
process. If this occurs, the mscsetup user should delete the erreonous path
if created.
- The MSC.Fatigue 2001 for_Patran installation could work incorrectly if
the following files do not have the correct permissions:
$p3_home/p3midilog.pcl
$p3_home/p3epilog.pcl
$p3_home/app_fatigue.plb
$p3_home/mscfatigue_files/FatigueSubmit
Please follow the instuctions in the last step in the installation process.
Change the file permissions as required.
