2005r3 and earlier database conversion (p3convert) patch
All customers using versions of Patran as early as 2001r2 and up through 2005r3 are highly encouraged to install this patch into all of their existing Patran installations. This will prevent a problem with databases being converted from older versions of Patran to newer versions. Patran 2006 already contains these new p3convert executables.
Package Installation
To install these files, uncompress the archive file and put the contents into the $P3_HOME/bin/exe directory for the appropriate platform. $P3_HOME is the Patran installation directory. Some default installation path examples are:
/msc/patran2004r2/
C:\MSC.Software\MSC.Patran\2004r2\
Do this for all installations of Patran as indicated above.
To Install On Unix/Linux:
The following example assumes that the tar file "suns_p3convert.tar.gz" has been copied to the "/tmp" directory on the current machine. It also assumes that the environment variable $P3_HOME has been set correctly to point to the installation directory for a given Patran version:
cd $P3_HOME/bin/exe
gunzip -c /tmp/suns_p3convert.tar.gz | tar xvf -
To Install On Windows:
Run "WinZip" or an equivalent program that is capable of uncompressing "ZIP" files. Copy the uncompressed files into the "$P3_HOME/bin/exe" directory.
Operational Differences
The old and new p3convert executables are functionally identical except that the new p3convert executables will announce themselves differently when they are run. The old p3convert executables print a startup message similar to the following:
p3convert_2003 2003
where the first item is the name of the executable and the second is the version of database being converted up to the next higher version (the source database). The new p3convert executables display the same startup message with some additional information:
p3convert_2003 2003 Rev. 1 (27-Jun-06)
The additional information designates this executable as the first revision and the date it was created.
