MSC.EASY5 2004 r2 Application Library Update
Ricardo Engine Library Version 2.3.1
This application library update contains a complete set of files for the Ricardo Engine Library version 2.3.1, an MSC.EASY5 application library used to model internal combustion engine and related devices.
Compatibility: MSC.EASY5 2004 r2
NOTE: This application library update was created for use with the 2004 r2 release of MSC.EASY5. While it may also work with other versions of MSC.EASY5, it was explicitly built and tested for use with this version, and we cannot advise using it with other versions. Users with older versions of MSC.EASY5 should install the 2004 r2 release before applying this application library update.
The following changes have been made with this release (relative to version 2.2):
- The documentation has been updated to be consistent with MSC.EASY5 2004 naming conventions.
- The compressor and turbine lookup tables have been modified. The tables now use “corrected” turbocharger speed as an input to the tables. This is done for consistency with the turbocharger mapping routines.
- The compressor flow model has been modified to account for non-atmospheric reference conditions. This enables modeling of dual-stage compression, etc.
Installation Instructions
Windows 2000/XP
MSC.EASY5 application libraries are packaged as a compressed, self-extracting file. Save the file to a local directory on the target computer. To install the library, simply execute the self-extracting executable file, which launches the MSC.EASY5 Setup application. The Setup program will search for any MSC.EASY5 installations on your computer, please select the appropriate one (2004 r2), or specify the top-level path. MSC.EASY5 Setup will install the library files into the appropriate MSC.EASY5 library folder, so that they will be ready to use with your existing version of MSC.EASY5.

Unix Platforms
MSC.EASY5 application libraries are packaged as shell archives on Unix platforms. Each Unix platform requires a “common” file, and a platform-specific file. A shell archive is a self-extracting, uncompressed, uuencoded file that requires a Bourne shell to extract all files and copy them to the appropriate MSC.EASY5 directories. Once executed, a Bourne shell script is invoked which prompts you for all required information necessary for the library installation. Please note that during the installation you will be prompted to enter the appropriate MSC.EASY5 shell command -- so that the installer will know the appropriate installation path. Otherwise, you may manually enter the top-level path of the MSC.EASY5 installation to integrate with. Please also note the minimum version of MSC.EASY5 required to utilize a given application library. There is checking on this during the install.
Installation Instructions for Unix Shell Archives
- Determine the MSC.EASY5 top-level directory. This is the directory where MSC.EASY5 2004 r2 is installed. To do this, enter the following command in a shell (enter the back apostrophe ` as shown): `easy5x -home`. This will return the MSC.EASY5 "home" directory - the top-level directory is one directory higher. The home directory should end a path /easy5/easy5x and the top-level path in /easy5. You will be prompted for this information in step 6 below.
- Download the "Common" file, then a platform-specific file per the Unix Download table. Please download the "Common" file first, followed by the appropriate platform-specific file.
- Select "Save As...", and save the file(s) to a directory path on the host computer. You will need to do this for both (Common and platform-specific) files you download.
- Open a Unix shell command window on the host computer and change the directory ("cd") to the directory specified above in step 3.
- Invoke the shell archive using the following shell command: sh shell_archive_file where shell_archive_file is the file you want to install. First install the "Common" archive, followed by the platform-specific archive.
- Follow the instructions in the script that is executed. You will be prompted for either the command used to invoke MSC.EASY5 2004 r2, or its top-level path (see step 1).
