As noise travels from its source, the noise will pass through multiple mediums or acoustic barriers, such as the walls or windows of an aircraft or vehicle. The design of these acoustic barriers plays a critical role in mitigating acoustic transparency, or the ability to isolate a fluid volume from external noise sources. This presentation highlights the strategies engineers employ to develop and implement acoustic treatments that serve as barriers. Multiple industry use cases are presented, and comments are made regarding how simulation tools are used to evaluate multiple designs and determine designs that optimally mitigate noise.
