NAS101 - Linear Static analysis using Nastran

Pre-requisites : 
No previous finite element analysis or computer-based modelling experience is required. A basic knowledge of statics and strength of materials is highly recommended


  • How to use Nastran effectively for linear structural problems

Day 1-

  • Introduction
  • Finite Element Overview
  • MSC Nastran Input File, Executive Control Section, Case Control Section
  • Model Description
  • Introduction to the Bulk Data Section,
  • Types of elements, loads

The first session covers finite element analysis followed by stiffness matrix generation for simple 1D Element. Also we will be discussing Nastran file formats and different element types.

Day 2-                            

  •  Introduction to the Bulk Data Section,
  •  Types of elements, loads
  •  Singularities and Mechanisms, MSC Nastran Automatic Checking Procedure
  • Diagnosing Errors, Useful Model Summary Information 

The second day session discusses different modelling guidelines and scenarios one generally should take care of. How to debug errors in modelling

Day 3 -

  • Real Eigenvalue Analysis 
  • Governing Equations and normal mode  analysis entries.
  • Nastran Statements and File Management Section
  • Restarts

The day three session focus on real Eigen value analysis a powerful solution sequence to extract natural frequencies and how that is helpful in further analysis in. In addition, it explains about Nastran Statements and how to restart analysis.

Day 4 -

  • Theory of Buckling.
  • Rules for SOL 105 Buckling Analysis 
  • Understanding MPCs,Connectors and R-Elements
  • Linear Contact and Glued Contact 
  • Model Checkout

The day four of the training talks about linear buckling analysis theory and how it is handled in Nastran. In addition, session covers understanding MPC’s (RBE2 vs RBE3), connectors. Also, we will be covering linear contact modelling and useful scenarios
