SimAcademy Webinar Archive: FRF FBA Scope and Understanding Responses
FRF FBA is a two-step process; first user needs to generate the FRF's from the individual components of assembly. Subsequently do the solution from FBA. The frequency response function (FRF) and FRF-based assembly (FBA) are not new to MSC Nastran users. FRFs can be used to represent components. This capability facilitates the computation of the FRFs of individual components and also the subsequent computation of the FRFs of an assembly of such components from their individual FRFs.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Rotordynamics Capability in Recent Years in MSC Nastran
For the past few years, MSC Nastran has supported 1-D rotor dynamics using beam/bar elements, which is widely used by turbines, jet engine, and airplane manufacturers. The rotor dynamics capability allows the user to perform static analysis, obtain real and complex eigenvalues, and determine frequency response and transient response. The 1-D implementation had the limitation that it cannot be used to model complex rotor geometry and the blades in this analysis are treated as rigid. The rotordynamics capabilities within Nastran are improved significantly from Nastran 2013 release. This webinar will summarize these features from Nastran 2013- Nastran 2018.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Automatic Contact Methods with MSC Nastran/Patran
In the modern industries, the product structures like airplanes, automobiles, and so on are becoming more and more complicated with many parts. It becomes, very challenging and difficult for users to establish the contact relationship between contact bodies. This webinar discusses Automatic Contact Methods which can be set up either in Patran or Nastran. A demonstration of the set ups will be shown using Patran followed by the Nastran BDF. Finally the pros and cons of both methods will be discussed.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: MSC Nastran HDF5 Data Model and API
This is the second of 2 sessions on HDF5, and intended for those interested in the programmatic interface to read HDF5 data. HDF5 files can be read with multiple programming languages. The first half of this session will cover the data model. This is important no matter which programming language is used. In the second half, Python examples will be used to show how to efficiently access HDF5 data.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Getting Started with MSC Nastran HDF5
HDF5 was introduced in MSC Nastran 2016 (enhanced in 2017 and 2018). HDF5 is an open data model for storing and managing heterogeneous data. The database organizes MSC Nastran input and output data in a hierarchical structure. Its open format and access via multiple programming languages make it ideal for FEA applications. HDF5 has important advantages: faster access and plot generation, and is easily accessed for downstream calculations. A single file can store all results, replacing use of multiple files (XDB, OP2, Master/Dball, and punch files).
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Multimass Configuration and Usage in MSC Nastran
Typical aerospace vehicle analysis requires consideration of multiple mass cases involving different structural mass, payloads, fuel conditions and environmental conditions. MSC Nastran 2018 has a new MMC capability, also known as MASSSET, that allows for specifying mass increments to construct additional mass configurations and conduct the analysis in a single run. This eliminates the need for workarounds such as subcase dependent MPCs and overlapping grids, etc.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Composite Modeling and Analysis Workflow in MSC Apex
MSC Apex is designed to provide engineers and CAE analysts with the most efficient and easy to use CAE tools on the market. This presentation will demonstrate a sample workflow for Composites Modeling and Analysis using MSC Apex Harris Hawk Version. It will help you become more familiar with various aspects of MSC Apex including Panels tool for defining a Laminate, Core Sample Tool for Laminate Verification as well various Failure Theories for Composite Failure calculations (either as Failure Index or Strength Ratio)
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: External Superelement Usage in SOL400
Prior to MSC Nastran V2018 external superelements could only be created in linear solutions 101 thru 112 and then assembled into linear solutions 101 thru 112. This was a two step process. With MSC Nastran V2018 the external superelement capability was extended to allow for superelement creation as well as assembly in solution 400. The two step process is further enhanced, to an optional three step process, by allowing for a restart of the reduction run in order to obtain data recovery of the external superelement after the assembly run has completed.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: FEM Utilities in PATRAN
Patran Utilities are a collection of user-written tools meant to simplify and extend Patran operations, and many of them should be an important part of the FEM analyst’s toolkit. While there are well over one hundred of them now, this presentation will look specifically at the utilities to create and modify nodes, elements, and MPCs/RBEs.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Application of Fatigue Utilities in MSC Fatigue
Fatigue occurs when a material is subjected to cyclic loading. MSC.Fatigue has extensive capabilities to carry out fatigue analysis using different approaches including Stress life (S-N) and Strain life (e-N). Fatigue analysis results are affected by many input parameters. Utilities in MSC.Fatigue help to simplify the setup and control of these input parameters.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Usage of Test-Correlation Tool (MSC ProCOR) Within Patran
Test correlation tool is an analytical tool for performing mathematical modal correlation of eigenvectors between two different analytical models or analytical to test data. The tool uses DMAP Alters to alter the solution sequence and perform additional calculations in support of correlation for modal analysis using MSC Nastran Solution 103. The correlation quantities are written to op2 files which can be read back into Patran using the op2 read special tab through test correlation tool.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Templates and Plot Sets in Patran
Templates and Plot Sets are Patran Tools to automate the creation of results plots. Templates ensure that plots throughout an entire project or across a group have a consistent format and look, and allow to user to easily re-use a complicate plot format. Plot Sets allow the automatic generation and export of dozens if not hundreds of result plots, and produce a huge savings of time and effort if many different loads cases need to be documented and compared.
SimAcademy Webinar Archive: Vibration Fatigue Analysis Using MSC Nastran (PART1)
MSC Nastran embedded vibration fatigue life estimation, when used early in a development design cycle has the potential to greatly enhance product life as well as reduce testing and prototype costs, thus ensuring greater speed to market. This computationally efficient procedure provides life estimates orders of magnitude faster, with only a small fraction of system resources compared to traditional methods that are using Time domain. Frequency domain methods for structural analysis also offer superior qualitative information about structural response.
SimAcademy Webinar Series: How to Validate a CMS External Superelement
MSC Nastran allows for the creation of a reduced, matrix-based representation of a Finite Element Model. This reduced representation is referred to as a Superelement. When creating a Component Modal Synthesis version of the Superelement, there are 3 main considerations: What DOF go on the boundary, Should those boundary DOF be fixed or free, and How many component modes to retain This presentation will focus on how to validate that the reduced model represented by the Superelement appropriately represents the unreduced component. A particular form of Superelements, External Superelements, will be used.
