MSC.Software Continues Account Penetration Strategy With Leading Rail Manufacturer Rotem

Korean Rail Manufacturer Increases Contract with MSC.Software, Deploys MSC.ADAMS and MSC.ADAMS/Rail To Predict Vehicle Performance

SANTA ANA, Calif. - December 3, 2002 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced that Korean rail manufacturer Rotem has increased their use of MSC.Software virtual product development technology and purchased MSC.ADAMS and MSC.ADAMS/Rail.  Rotem has been a customer of MSC.Software since 1996 and relies on MSC.Nastran, MSC.Patran and MSC.Fatigue to reduce the time and costs of designing and testing rail cars, rail equipment and electrical systems.

"MSC.Software is very focused on providing our customers valuable virtual product development tools and service offerings and our new contract with Rotem for MSC.ADAMS is an example of some of the success we're seeing," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software.  "This is also an excellent example of the incremental opportunities we are finding to sell MSC.ADAMS to core MSC.Software customers and helping them compete in world markets with better products."

"In the 21st century, the Korean rolling stock industry is playing an important role in our nation's economic development," said K.W. Lee, Principal Researcher of Basic Technology Team at Rotem. "Rotem applies the state-of-the-art technology provided by MSC.Software to develop better railway vehicles such as high-speed train and magnetically levitated vehicles. Rotem has been one of the biggest and most capable manufacturers in the industry and, through use of advanced technologies, has contributed an enormous amount to our industry."

Under the terms of the agreement, Rotem will use MSC.ADAMS and MSC.ADAMS/Rail for system-level functional virtual prototyping of new railcars to investigate their running stability, comfort and safety in early stages of the development cycle. It is a natural extension of their existing development process, already based on MSC.Nastran, MSC.Patran and MSC.Fatigue, for structural optimization of vehicle components.

Competition within the global rail industry has forced manufacturers to re-evaluate design and manufacturing processes in the effort to introduce new rail cars and transportation equipment and systems to the market in less time and for less expense.  With technology applications like MSC.Nastran, MSC.Patran and MSC.ADAMS, rail manufacturers and suppliers can investigate the effects of different load variations and stresses on their products and reduce the amount of  ‘trial and error' physical prototyping.
