Version 2005r1 and earlier versions update to resolve licensing issue (1-196111602)

Problem Description:

As of April 1, 2009, versions of MSC Nastran prior to v2005r2 fail with an error message similar to this example:

NSINIT: *** NSINIT ERROR 70 *** UNABLE TO OPEN UNIT 8

This occurs regardless of the type of license being used.

The cause of this licensing system issue has been identified and product updates are being created and rolled out as available.

  • Nastran for Windows customers (v2003 r2 and earlier), please apply this FixPack to upgrade your MSC Nastran solver to version 2001r4 (2001.0.9). A README.TXT is included in the FixPack with instructions.

  • Nastran for Windows customers (v2004, v2004r2, v2005, and v2005r2), please apply this FixPack to upgrade your MSC Nastran solver to version 2005r2 (2005.1.0). To upgrade a 2004 based system all files in this FixPack should be used to replace existing files. To upgrade a 2005 based system only analysis.exe is a required replacement. The lapi.dll file should be added to the i386 directory in the 2004 and 2005 based upgrades.

  • visualNastran4D (vN4D) customers (v2004 SP2 and earlier), please apply this FixPack to upgrade your MSC Nastran solver to version 2001r4 (2001.0.9). A README.TXT is included in the FixPack with instructions.

Instructions: for Stand-Alone MSC Nastran Users:

To correct this problem, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Locate the analysis.exe file in your MSC Nastran installation. This file is typically found in the following directory: <Install_Dir>/<Version>/<Platform>/analysis(.exe)
    Example:
The default location for MSC Nastran 2001r4 would be:
    C:\msc\msc2001\i386\analysis.exe (Windows)
    /msc/msc2001/solaris/analysis (Solaris)
  2. Rename the existing analysis.exe to analysisold.exe
  3. Copy the updated analysis.exe to the same location.
